Last week myself and Sam were on Berwick street, Soho, for about half an hour in the torrential rainfall that struck London and ruined everyone’s day, when suddenly we had a reason to smile. We’d stumbled across an independent record shop called Reckless Records blasting out a few tasty sounding dubs so without fail we stepped into what we would later conclude as a dope find and what had initially been a place to get out the rain turned out to be a lot more interesting.
“Reckless Records is an independent record shop based at 30 Berwick Street, Soho, London W1 (just off Oxford Street). We deal in second-hand albums, 12″ and 7″ singles – and also carry a large array of used compact discs across a wide range of styles and genres – rock, dance and everything else, many deleted and hard to get, plus some hard-to-find new vinyl.
We’re interested in purchasing most kinds of music. Our main areas are rock & pop, soul & dance, jazz, punk and reggae. We have specialist buyers and will purchase small or large quantities for cash or exchange. Some of our more unusual CDs are available on Amazon.co.uk, you can click through to our latest list, but the vast majority of our stock is only on sale in our shop.
From June 2007 to July 2010 we were called Revival Records.”
The first thing I layed eyes on was Wiley’s 2007 banger ‘Playtime is over’, next was Skream’s self entitled album ‘Skream!‘ and these were only the first two! The list went on, from grime classics to the best in soul & dance, from jazz to the finest hip-hop out there to date . Not much beats that feeling of picking up an old vinyl and hearing it play back the years in your head. Of course i had to back my talk, so here are a few moments from the shop:
Thanks to all staff over at Reckless for the welcome.
